New player in the AI game is here: Facebook’s ‘M’
Wait, What? ‘M’ is here? What would James bond do now?
Remember, When we had to call a real person to find a number of a desired restaurant? – note down a number – then dial again and talk to another person – and make a reservation.
Then came along Artificial Intelligent Virtual Assistance like Siri, Cortana etc. You type your query and it gives you bunch of links to choose from. Then apps like cortana and siri started to understand your voice making typing redundant. Now Facebook wants to take us to typing again with its new chatbot named “M” (We don’t know what is that stands for! Perhaps It is an initial of the owner himself Mark. God knows!). Really? Is that logical to step back?
How it works?
It works in a same way as you type a massage to a person in a facebook messenger. Just tap a button to activate ‘M’, type in your query and ‘M’will come up with an answer to any of your complex question which by the way Siri, Cortana or Google Now can not answer, Because Facebook ‘M’ is powered by actual people’s intelligence, when the AI finds it difficult to answer your question a facebook employee steps in and helps the AI answer the question also that will be saved for future to tackle that kinds of question again. So, eventually facebook ‘M’ is we can say a hybrid intelligence of both Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence. A human supervisor will do most of the things here like making a call for reservation, booking tables if asked.
It is in baby stages we can assume as it is growing, learning and taking the help of grown ups when needed. But it clearly has leverage of more than 700 million people’s data and their daily activities in the facebook and its messenger are feeding ‘M’ with everything it needs- the experience.
